The Democratic candidate for Franklin County Auditor, Terry Brown has a history of public service. While in college at Capital University, he coordinated the Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge in 1997 and also taught preschool and vacation bible school.
As Bankruptcy Coordinator in the Franklin County Treasurer’s Office, Terry managed and organized the Treasurer’s bankruptcy cases and helped develop an online system for processing and tracking bankruptcy cases. He also helped to make sure that people who had filed bankruptcy were able to stay current on their taxes, allowing them to leave bankruptcy without a delinquent tax debt.
Terry also worked for the Franklin County Board of Commissioners in the Human Resources Department where he sat on the Planning Commission. In addition, Terry was an active participant in the Franklin County Joint Benefits Committee where members of labor and management from across the county worked together to help rein in health care costs by implementing changes that saved over $6 million in 2 years, while still providing high quality health insurance.
Upon returning to the Treasurer’s Office, Terry helped manage the multimillion dollar tax lien sales and existing portfolios. He was instrumental in helping taxpayers setup delinquent tax repayment plans so they could avoid foreclosure. Other duties included Special Projects Coordinator working on land reuse and reutilization of abandoned industrial sites or properties that had become victims of the foreclosure crisis and Supervisor of the Customer Service Division. During this time, Terry served as the Treasurer’s representative on the Franklin County Board of Revision which handles proprety valuation disputes and appeals.
With his partner, Terry currently owns a home in the Westgate neighborhood of Columbus. They are active members of St. Paul United Church of Christ where Terry has served as Treasurer.
